FAQ (frequently asked questions) about Ellipse/Oval Pools by Intex.
1.) How much air should be used to inflate the top ring? (References Easy Set™ and Ellipse™ Pools only)
1.) How much air should be used to inflate the top ring? (References Easy Set™ and Ellipse™ Pools only)
Inflate until the top ring becomes round in shape and firm to the touch. An over inflated ring heated by the sun may burst or lead to leaks in the seam.
We distribute 8', 10', 12', 15', 18', 20', 24' and 32' pool sizes.
3.) Can a pool be picked up at ONEinc's warehouse?
Yes, you, our customer, may pick up a pool at our ONEinc suplier's Nevada warehouse during normal business hours. This will avoid all shipping costs. ONEinc will release an item to you in person only if they have a purchase order from Sandrix Enterprises that states that our customer will pick up the item in person. Contact us if you have further questions regarding this.
4.) Can I set the pool up on a concrete patio?
Yes, but a ground cloth is highly recommended. Do not drag the liner across the concrete, as abrasions will cause holes. The surface must be smooth, level, and stable.
5.) What other surfaces can be safely used to set up my Intex Easy Set Pool?
Easy Set™, Ellipse™ and Frame Set™ Pools can be set up on grass, compacted dirt, or pavement that is completely smooth, level, and stable. A ground cloth or tarp is recommended. The pool should NOT be set up on sand or muddy ground that could possibly shift. It is also NOT recommended to be set up on wooden decks.
6.) What is the steepest slope that I am able to set up my pool on?
For best results the surface should be perfectly level. Pay close attention to the pool's stability and levelness in the early stages of filling. If after about an inch of water has accumulated, and the water is not spreading out evenly, or the pool appears to be bulging to one side, stop filling the pool, drain the water, and select a new level site. If the pool is set up on a slope, the pool will be lopsided and could collapse.
8.) What would cause the Pool to be lopsided?
The base or bottom of the pool is not laid out flat (without wrinkles). The pool liner must extend evenly around the outside of the inflatable ring (for Easy Set™ and Ellipse™ Pools)when the pool is filled with water, otherwise the ground is not 100% level.
9.) How high can I fill the pool?
To the bottom of the inflatable ring or to the bottom of the frame rail. Do Not Overfill. This may cause the pool walls to become unstable and possibly result in injury or property damage from the water flowing over the pool while in use.
10.) Approximately how many gallons of water does the pool hold?
When filled to 80% water capacity, as recommended, the pool depth is approximately:
11.) What is the approximate depth of water?
When filled to 80% water capacity, as recommended, the pool depth is approximately:
12.) Does the ladder and / or cover come with the pool?
It depends on the package you purchased. Be sure to read the description prior to purchasing.
13.) Is there a repair patch enclosed for liner repair?
Yes. Small tears or holes can be repaired with the enclosed repair patch. The surface should be dry before affixing the patch.
14.) How many seasons should the pool last?
It normally depends on usage, maintenance, and care. Consistent maintenance and proper storage of your pool in the off-season will prolong its life.
15.) Can grass grow through the ground cloth and / or pool liner?
Yes, in some cases certain types of hardy grass such as Bermuda or St. Augustine can grow through the liner. Before setting up your pool, it is recommended that you clear the area of these types of hardy grasses. Intex will not be held responsible for grasses that may grow through the ground cloth and / or pool liner, as this is not a manufacturing defect. A ground cloth or tarp may be helpful in preventing this from occurring.
16.) Is it safe to lean over, lie down, or sit on top of the pool's inflatable ring? (References Easy Set™ and Ellipse™ Pools only)
No. Do not allow any pool occupants (even small children) to lean over, lie down, or sit on the inflatable top ring. This will cause instability in the pool and water to spill over the side, resulting in possible injury or property damage.
17.) Is it safe for pets to play in the pool?
No. Dogs, cats, and all other household pets should be kept away from the pool to avoid possibly becoming trapped inside, and to protect the structural integrity of the pool. (There is a risk of the sidewalls and inflatable ring becoming punctured by pet claws and teeth).
18.) Does my Intex pool carry a factory warranty?
Only the filter pumps have a one-year limited warranty. This warranty is included in the filter pump manual. Intex does have a service program that covers any pool manufacturing defects within the first 90 days from the date of original purchase. The product must be returned to Intex along with a copy of the dated sales receipt, your name, address, telephone number and a brief note explaining the reason for the return. It is suggested that you ship the pruduct to Intex using a traceable shipping method. Intex will not be repsonsible for products lost in transit. The consumer is repsonsible for the shipping cost to Intex.
19.) Will Intex issue a refund for manufacturing defective products?
Any refund request must be made to the original place of purchase.
20.) Can the pool and pump be purchased separately?
Yes, if we have them in stock.
21.) Is a fence or enclosure required by law?
Some cities and towns require owners of certain types of pools, based on size and depth, to fence in their property. Check your local city ordinance.
22.) Is a video available to show how to set up the pool?
A video is included with every pool.
23.) What is needed to prepare a site for the pool?
A level, stable surface is needed and all sharp objects must be removed. A ground cloth or tarp should be placed under the pool prior to setting it up. If a site does in fact have hardy types of grass such as St. Augustine or Bermuda it is recommended to remove these grasses before initial set up.
24.) How do I protect the pool from damaging grass or fungi that develops on the concrete?
It is not possible to prevent grass or lawn damage from growing under the pool. Keep this in mind when selecting your site for set up. Keep the grass and concrete as dry as possible by mopping up excess splashed water after each use to minimize fungal growth.
25.) Can the pool be left up year-round?
It depends on where you live. It is not recommended to keep your pool up if your temperature falls below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The pool may freeze and cracking may occur. Above Ground Pools are not meant to withstand the weight of ice and snow.
26.) Can a portable water heater be used for this type of pool?
No electrical heater should be used, as short circuits may occur. This is a dangerous thing to do, and may result in injury or death.
27.) Does the liner require any special care to ensure durability?
Keep sharp objects out of the pool or from underneath the pool. Maintain proper pH levels, and keep the pool sanitary and clean.
28.) How much does it cost to fill the pool with water?
It varies across the U.S.A. Contact your local water company for cost information.
29.) How often should the water be changed?
Depending on usage and chemical balance this figure may vary. If properly filtered and chemically balanced, the water should last through a summer season. You can reduce the need for water changes by keeping your pool covered when not in use, testing the water regularly to ensure proper chemical balance, operating the pump for an adequate number of hours each day, keeping the filter pump cartridge clean, and replacing the cartridge when needed.
30.) Do you recommend using chemicals? If so, what kind?
Yes. Contact your local pool supply store and provide the estimated number of gallons of water in your pool.
31.) Would excessive pool chemicals affect / cause deterioration to liners?
Excessive or concentrated chemicals may cause damage to any pool and its user.
32.) How do UV rays affect the materials that comprise the pool?
All PVC's degrade over prolonged exposure to excessive sunlight. Intex pools are manufactured with UV inhibitors to delay the degradation caused by sunlight.
33.) How do you clean dirt from the pool floor?
A pool vacuum can be used. Some pool packages come with a maintenance kit that includes a pool vacuum. This maintenance kit may be purchased separately if desired.
34.) What should I use to clean the pool before storing it for the winter?
Mild soap and water. Thoroughly rinse the liner and make sure it is dry before storing.
35.) How long does it take to fill the pool with water?
2 or more hours, depending on which pool, hose size, and water pressure. Remember to observe the initial filling of the pool for several minutes in order to make sure that the pool is rising evenly and the surface is level.
36.) Is it safe to jump or dive into the pool off of a ladder or any type of platform?
No. Under no circumstances should anyone jump or dive into the pool. Intex does not distribute any pools that are deep enough to allow such activity. Serious injury or death could result from failure to follow these rules.
37.) Do I need to keep safety and rescue equipment on hand near my pool?
You should always have standard safety equipment on hand in the immediate pool area. Recommended items are (but not limited to) an approved ring buoy with reinforced rope, a standard first aid kit, a blunt ended metal or hard plastic rescue pole, telephone numbers of local authorities, and emergency procedure information.
38.) What material is the pool made of?
It is made with 3 separate layers of material for extra strength and durability - two outer layers of heavy gauge PVC laminated to an inner layer of polyester mesh for extra reinforcement. 8' and 10' pools have a 13 gauge floor/top ring with a 24 gauge side wall. 12' pools have a 15 gauge floor with a 25 gauge side wall and a 17 gauge top ring. 15' pools have a 16 gauge floor with a 29 to 30 gauge side wall and a 20 gauge top ring. 18' pools have a 24 gauge floor/top ring with a 30 gauge side wall. Gauge can be referenced as the equivalent of 1/1000 of an inch.
39.) Why do I find algae in my pool even when I run my filter pump regularly?
The pump and filter alone will not prevent algae from growing in the pool water; this can only be done by maintaining proper chlorine and pH levels at all times. Check your local pool supply store for further information.
40.) How do I prevent dirt and grime from getting into the pool?
Use the Intex pool cover when the pool is not in use. This will help keep wind and other elements from depositing dirt and debris in your pool, and will also prevent excess rainwater from overfilling your pool.
41.) How do I "winterize" the pool? Your Pool can be easily emptied and stored in a safe place during the winter. However, many people choose to leave their pool up year round. In areas where freezing temperatures occur, there is risk of ice damage. It is recommended to drain, disassemble and store the pool in a safe place when drop below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. See "How To Drain Your Pool" section.
